Enrique: Reds have to deal with quick turnaround.!

Liverpool defender Jose Enrique insists there will be no excuses from the players as they prepare for a quick turnaround for a Carling Cup quarter-final at Chelsea.

Less than 50 hours after the final whistle of an exhilarating but energy-sapping 1-1 draw with Manchester City, Kenny Dalglish's side will run out again at Stamford Bridge.

Changes to the starting line-up are inevitable, but some of the players who featured at Anfield on Sunday will be required as the Reds go in search of the second victory over Chelsea, who have had an extra day's rest, in nine days.

Spaniard Enrique admits it is a situation unique to English football and one the squad have to deal with as best they can.

"If the manager decides I have to play I play,'' the left-back said.

"The Premier League and Football League didn't make a good decision.

"We played on Sunday and have to play in another 48 hours, whereas Chelsea played on Saturday.

"This is not normal. It is just happens in England.

"It is no good for us because we play against Chelsea away and it is hard to win, and normally when you play 48 hours after a game you are more tired.

"But there will be no excuses. We can still win there and will try to get that win.''

Dalglish will make several changes to his team.

Forward Craig Bellamy is likely to return having been omitted from the squad on Sunday on compassionate grounds after the death of close friend Gary Speed.

Jamie Carragher should make his first appearance in over a month, having spent the last two matches on the bench after injury, while there may also be recalls for fellow defender Martin Kelly, midfielders Maxi Rodriguez and Jay Spearing and striker Andy Carroll.

Chelsea have a chance to build on the weekend's 3-0 victory over Wolves.

Despite fielding relatively youthful sides in the wins over Fulham and Everton earlier in the competition, the Carling Cup holds a special place in the hearts of Chelsea and of assistant manager Roberto Di Matteo in particular.

Di Matteo scored the winning goal in the League Cup final at Wembley in 1998, and seven years later the Blues won the competition again in what was to be the first of six trophies won under Jose Mourinho.

Despite accusations the tournament has been devalued in recent years, Di Matteo thinks lifting the cup in February's final could have a huge impact on the Blues' push for silverware in other competitions, and on Andre Villas-Boas' chances of keeping his job.

"(In 1998) it gave the team a real belief, a momentum,'' Di Matteo said.

"Then and now are two different situations, but it gave that team a good, positive effect to go on and win the Cup Winners' Cup and finish the season well.

"This year we've looked at it as a trophy for us to win.

"It's a chance to win a cup. It can give a very positive momentum if you win a trophy in that part of the season.

"It's the first one we can win and we are still in all the competitions, so we have a chance to win them all.

"In terms of the manager, winning a trophy is always very important.''

Di Matteo refused to reveal whether Fernando Torres would face his former club after starting the last four games on the Chelsea bench.

Villas-Boas is likely to blood the likes of Josh McEachran, Romelu Lukaku and Ryan Bertrand, while captain John Terry is suspended and Raul Meireles is cup-tied.
